Milwaukie’s Streets Division maintains 150 lane miles of
roadway and right of way, seven traffic signals, 3750 regulatory, warning and
informational signs, 546 legends and 44 lane miles of pavement striping. The
division also sweeps all curbed streets and bike paths on an eight-day cycle.
Function:
Maintain and enhance our infrastructure in a cost-effective manner and
provide a clean, clearly defined, and safe travel way for vehicles, bikes,
and pedestrians.
Continue an aggressive education and training program for personnel.
Maintain good working relations with our citizens and neighboring agencies.
Mandated functions:
Install and maintain all Regulatory, Warning and Guide Signage in accordance
with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. ( All work performed
by City personnel)
Install and maintain all pavement markings. ( Striping and Legends ) Striping
performed by Clackamas County, Legends performed by City personnel.
Install and maintain seven traffic signals and five school crossing flashers.

Sweep approximately 75 curb miles on an eight-day cycle in accordance with
our DEQ permit. ( All work performed By City personnel )
Maintain approximately 75 miles of roadway to an acceptable level, for
safe travel.
Either another government agency or legal liability mandates all functions
performed by the Street Department.
Revenue Sources and Restrictions for Streets:
State Gas Tax revenue
Franchise fees from Sewer and Water
Bike fund:
1% of our State Gas Tax revenue
Spending restrictions limited to bike-related projects
SDC:
Estimated trips generated by use/new development
Spending restrictions limited to MMC 1328.060 and .070, i.e. projects that
are necessary to accommodate growth, e.g. additional capacity
