Location:
Milwaukie, OR is located in Clackamas County in the northern section
of the Willamette Valley. Recreational amenities in Milwaukie and
its vicinity include, but are not limited to, the North Clackamas Aquatic
Park, the Springwater Trail, and a Willamette River boat ramp. Clackamas
County contains many amenities a short drive away including Mt. Hood and
Timberline Ski areas, Molalla River State Park, and much more.
Climate:
Milwaukie is 39 feet above sea level. The monthly average low
temperature is 35 degrees Fahrenheit and the monthly average high is 82
degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest month is August and the coldest month
is January. The driest month is July and the wettest is December.
The average annual precipitation is 47.060 inches.
Demographics
Population:
The City of Milwaukie, OR today, according to the 2000 U.S. Census,
contains 20,490 people. The population during the last ten years has increased
by 1,798, which is a 9.6% increase from 1990 to 2000. Milwaukie is
the second largest City in Clackamas County holding 6.06% of the county’s
population.
The median age in the year 2000 was 37.7 years. Culturally, the 2000
Census reveals much diversity, but the population overall is predominantly
white (91%). The largest minority group in the year 2000 was the
Hispanic or Latino population, which amounted to 4% (813 people) of the
total population. This group includes persons from many areas of
Central and South America including, but not limited to Mexico, Puerto
Rico, and Cuba. Other minorities currently living in Milwaukie include
African Americans, Asians, Chinese, Filipinos, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese,
Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, Samoans, Russians, among
others.
Housing: Milwaukie contained a total of 7,900 households in 1990, which increased
to 8,561 in 2000. That represented a 8.4% increase in total households
over the past ten years. Ownership information for 1990 and 2000
is contained in the following chart. Owner Occupied households have
increased 9.6% more than renter occupied households over the years 1990
to 2000.
The median value of owner-occupied housing in 2000 was $154,800 in the
City of Milwaukie, while it was $199,000 for Clackamas County as a whole.

The Public School District is North Clackamas School District 12 (NC12).
Ranking sixth in Oregon in student enrollment, NC12 serves more than 40
square miles and is located 12 miles from downtown Portland. Included are
the incorporated cities of Milwaukie, Happy Valley, and Johnson City, as
well as the neighborhoods of Oak Grove, Concord, Clackamas, Sunnyside,
Mount Scott, Southgate, and Carver.
