Municipal Court - Suspension of Driving Privileges

Suspension of Driving Privileges

The Court will request that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) suspend driving privileges for the following reasons:

  • Failure to appear for arraignment.

  • Failure to appear for a court trial or other hearing date. There is no grace period for court trials. You can be suspended the same day.

  • Failure to pay fines and fees by either failing to pay on the day adjudicated or failing to adhere to the payment agreement.

  • Failure to comply with a Seatbelt Class. If you have chosen to take a Seatbelt class in lieu of paying the fine and do not attend the class, then the fine is due immediately. Failure to pay the fine will result in suspension of driving privileges.

  • Failure to comply with court orders.

Once the Court has requested that DMV suspend your driving privileges, additional fees are added to each violation. When the fine has been paid in full the Court will issue you a reinstatement form that needs to be taken to a full-service DMV for processing.

If a citation is in "suspended status" with the Court, you are not eligible for a payment agreement. You may submit payments, but your license will not be reinstated until your account is paid in full. Making payments to the court will prevent your account from being sent to a collection agency. Once the account is paid in full a reinstatement letter will be issued..
